Fremantle Tweed Run 2015 - The Promo

It's that time of the year when tweed clothing becomes fashionable to wear. Dismantle are again sponsoring the Fremantle Tweed Run and this years event will be bigger and better than ever. Treadlie Magazine are kindly supporting the annual event which is expected to attract hundreds of well dressed fashion conscious vintage cyclists.

The event is in its 5th year and on this fine occasion it will start from the South Beach carpark in South Fremantle at 12pm on Sunday 8 November 2015.  There is no entry fee but participants are asked to cycle with care whilst they meander through Fremantle town, then on to the North Fremantle Bowling Club which is just off Thompson Road, North Freo.

Once at the bowling club there will be the usual music with dancers, lovely playing greens, and a well organised bar from which to satisfy ones thirst.

Congratulations goes to Sam Gorecki who won the Tweed Run Poster competition this year. Here is his poster below that has captured the spirit of this fine event.

There will be prizes again this year, the most important prizes being for those vintage cyclists most suitably attired for the special occasion. A Tweed run was held in Stockholm, Sweden, on 19 September 2015. Here are some images from that ride that can inspire us all!!

Of course the weather in Stockholm is a little nippy this time of year so the tweed jackets were the perfect companion to beat the cold. I am hoping that the weather in Fremantle is favourable this year, maybe even a little bit on the colder side so that tweed can be worn in comfort!

See you on the ride, safe riding until then...

Freo Tweed Run 2014

'Dismantle' have done it again this year!! The Fremantle Tweed Run is on this Sunday, 26 October 2014.

Those lucky enough to go will gather near the Dismantle Workshops on the Fremantle Esplanade where they will experience a fantastic afternoon of fun and laughter. Dress in your best vintage tweeds (Good Sammy's here I come!) and bring along your favourite vintage bicycle to ride in the event. Don't be too concerned if you don't have a vintage bike, you can still ride a modern bicycle, just try and dress to the theme.

Entry is free and no bookings are required. Search the web for similar rides to get the general idea, get into the spirit of the day and enjoy the experience of cycling!

After gathering near the workshops on the Esplanade at 12.00 midday you'll be lead by the master of Dismantle ceremonies for the epic ride that will end up at the North Freo Bowling Club a little later in the afternoon.

The ride won't be difficult, so don't be thinking that you need to be a cycling fanatic to participate! The ride will be easy and enjoyable.

I am so disappointed that I can't make it this year, I have to go to a family wedding down south. Last year was a real hoot, I caught up with friends I had not seen in years!

The good news is that the ride will again finish at the North Fremantle Bowling Club which is such a great venue. After the ride play bowls if you wish, but more importantly quench your well earned thirst with a cleansing ale as you soak up the vibes of yesteryear.

Here's a couple of piccies from last year to get you into the spirit....

Check out the Freo Tweed Run page on Facebook for more info.

Dismantle do a great job, please support them when and where you can!

Enjoy the day....

Fremantle Tweed Run 2012 - Promo

It's that time of year again when the good folk at http://dismantle.org.au host their annual Tweed Run cycling event through the streets of Fremantle Town. Last years event was a cracker and this years promises to be even better!!

This years Tweed Run will commence at 10.00am on Sunday November 4, 2012, at Esplanade Park, Fremantle, just near the Dismantle (bicycle) workshop. If you don't know Freo very well just look for the large ferris wheel near the fishing boat harbour, or for more info go to Dismantle's Facebook page.

Here is the stylish promotional poster for this years event:

Fremantle Tweed Run 2012.

The event will commence with a picnic style gathering of all Tweed Run participants in the park, so be sure to bring along your vintage ride and remember to wear your favourite tweed gear. You'll be surprised what you can find at your local Good Samaritans Store!! Unlike last year the organisers have requested that all participants wear bicycle helmets....the ride will be on the streets of Fremantle so normal road rules will apply to the group without exception.

Although the event is free please bring along a small donation for the Dismanlte group to  support them with their community focused cycling projects...they do some really good work! There will also be tea and scones on sale so ensure you bring a little extra cash to spoil yourself throughout the morning!

The Ride itself will begin in the car park at the northern end of Esplanade Park, and will meander in a southerly direction all the way down Marine Terrace. The group will then hook back around onto South Terrace and make its way up into the cappuccino strip to finish at the Fremantle Coffee Festival. Fremantle will be very busy due to the Coffee Festival so if you're not riding to the event get there early to alleviate parking problems.

Here's a couple of images from last year's event to wet the appetite...

...and a great day it was too!! Please mark your calendar and make this years Tweed Run a day to remember.

Until then, ride safe,

James
